Lobo’s backstory confirms that originality will prevail

James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU seems to be staying true to the comics in many aspects. And now, with the Supergirl preview, some details got out, and one of the most enticing ones is on Lobo, played by Jason Momoa.

Well, it seems the franchise will be using a part of the bounty hunter’s backstory, which makes him who he is. Adding Lobo itself is a significant development, as the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comics didn’t feature him due to some creative differences.

But retaining Lobo is a crucial part of his story, and luckily, it seems we’re getting that Lobo, after all. Yup, Supergirl refers to him “…an immortal with a god complex-killed off his entire planet. Not a fun guy.”

In the comics, for a science project, Lobo attempts to wipe out his entire race, Czarnian. Although DC later made some minor changes here, and this stayed as this’ a major point, and it captures the ruthless nature of the last Czarnian.

And it seems relieved to say that this DCU franchise is keeping it that way. Maybe they won’t give us the full backstory, as it looks like he and Kara are after the same rogues, and it’s a Supergirl flick, maybe so.

But whatever it is, retaining the originality is a big thing for comic fans. Let’s see what the flick says more, early next week.
