An unexpected family emergency takes Matt Reeves away from the sequel production

The production of The Batman Part II was underway in London when it hit an unexpected hiatus. Matt Reeves, director of The Batman Part II, had to step away from Warner Bros. and DC Studios for personal reasons.

A statement by the Studio read, “Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter. Matt has the full support of DC Studios, and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”

The film was scheduled for a release on Feb 18, 2028, but now it is to be seen whether the current hiatus delays the release schedule.

The film features Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, while Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell will reprise their roles as Alfred Pennyworth and Penguin/Oswald “Oz” Cobb. Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan are also cast as Gilda Dent and Harvey Dent, respectively.

Additionally, the upcoming sequel is stated to take a sharp left turn compared to its 2022 predecessor, The Batman Part I, albeit it’ll retain its elements of the original’s feel. Robert considers this an ambitious project. He said, “I mean, I sort of said the other day on something that the first one was a different take on a Batman movie, and this one is another… It’s a real left turn from the first one, but somehow it keeps elements of the kind of feel of it. But it just feels really ambitious, and I’m excited to see how it turns out.”

In an interview, Robert Pattinson also addressed speculation about Matt Reeves’ Batman joining James Gunn’s DCU, describing it as a difficult prospect because this version of the character might feel out of place in James Gunn’s DCU.

Meanwhile, James Gunn debunked rumors of casting Jensen Ackles as Batman/Bruce Wayne in his DCU. James clarified that, with the script still unfinished, no actor has been selected yet for the upcoming The Brave and the Bold.
