Synopsis:

This Crossovers TPB brings action and adventure as the two worlds collide in Devil’s Reign, as Mephisto from Marvel realizes the existence of the Top Cow universe, and plans to use it for his plans. The story brings the action and adventure as two worlds collide! Apart from this arc, it also contains the Incredible Hulk facing The Darkness and a story in which Wolverine and Witchblade get married.

AWEsomeness:

The art is cool, but the plot is just okayish (could have been better).

My Review:

This is one of the first major Top Cow/Marvel crossovers. The start of the plot was good, but then it spiralled out with some cringeworthy, pervy lines and awkward moments. Now, most of the crossovers in the 90s were just for fun between the publishers, unlike today, which are fun + a serious plot. Now, the middle part of the arc felt a bit off as Marvel characters like Wolverine and Ghost Rider just made a passing-by sort, but not with much action as one would expect from their normal books. The end was okayish and felt rushed. The writers could have extended the plots with a couple of issues, and could have explained a few things about the characters’ whereabouts after the crossover, like an aftermath or sort, as characters like Wolverine and Ghost Rider appear out of nowhere thanks to Mephisto’s interference (the only reason I can think of/most probably), and vanish. But Elektra, though, she appeared out of nowhere, that particular issue felt the story was back on track, and that was good for the story. Almost the same as Silver Surfer, Jamie, and Heatwave. Overall, the arc had a few great moments, and some dynamic/elseworldish-type team-up issues, but something…more like the ‘punch’ of the story or the excitement was missing.

Read somewhere the actual plot had Wolverine & Elektra trying to rescue a child named Jamie, and this was gonna be a rescue mission. I think if they had stuck to that, then it would’ve been superb; it had a proper hostage, a proper emotional anchor, but unfortunately, someone just had to screw it, and we get a random Jamie driving into the sunset with his girlfriend, a total early 80s, 90s pulp fiction style, tbh.

Tbh, this didn’t feel that grand as expected. The other stories were more like Crossover Earth stories, which were good, and the art was superb in all.

Its singles were released almost three decades back, and were collected into a TPB after a decade. And here I have it after three decades. But it was worth it. The price was too high, but it’s not something that you find easily after so many years. So for me, it was okay, I guess.

Rating: 2.5/5 stars
