The Promethean Giants are beings who tried to breach the Source Wall and were trapped in it for eternity. These Giants from the Promethean Galaxy enlarged themselves in their attempt to smash through the Source Wall, but failed.

Many were left embedded in the wall, and some were found to be floating through space, chained to enormous rocks, experiencing that their biology and metaphysical process is very slow that their suffering has no end. Some are shattered, but they are still alive, sometimes able to reach out to other beings with their thoughts, crying out in humiliation and pain.  Their immense scale means a single heartbeat will take about a billion years

Metron would sometimes consider them. Some giants even have primitive vegetation growing on them.

Relic, who was trapped in it, had some sort of rudimentary awareness of his petrified state, albeit he wasn’t fully alive. As they were trapped and in some kind of dead state, Black Hand was able to reanimate them as members of his Black Lantern Corps.

As per DCU history, these Promethean Giants formed Perpetua’s Great Army.
