Harrison Ford’s Ross all set to transform into a more threatening Hulk nemesis than ever in Brave New World
In March 2022, William Hurt, who played Thaddeus Ross passed away following a short battle with prostate cancer. This was a huge loss for the MCU, and the character was passed on to Harrison Ford. In Captain America: Brave New World, the 35th MCU flick, we will see Thaddeus Ross transform into the Red Hulk after his first appearance in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.
But,
Yeah, but…will we see the Red vs. Green is yet to be seen.
Why did it take so long?
Red Hulk is primarily an antagonist of the Hulk. The two have massive differences and have clashed many times in the comicverse.
Why did this take too long to happen, is the question racing through everyone’s mind. Didn’t they have a story? Ohh, wait a minute, it wasn’t that simple!
In these full MCU sagas of 34 flicks so far, the Hulk had just one solo film coz of Universal Pictures owns the rights to the character. This made the Hulk more like a supporting character and thus indirectly upsetting Red Hulk’s entry too. Due to this, and the lack of the Hulk trilogy which could have given depth to Hulk’s character.
The new flick Captain America: Brave New World picks up a lot of loose ends from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, making it look more like a sequel to the latter with Sam Wilson’s Captain America played by Anthony Mackie at its center.
Harrison Ford as Thaddeus Ross/Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World along with Liv Tyler’s Betty Ross and Tim Blake Nelson’s Samuel Sterns/The Leader were important ones in The Incredible Hulk, and so, Marvel chose to use them in Sam Wilson’s story due to the restriction with more Hulk solos.
Will we see the most anticipated, Red vs. Green Showdown?
Now, this is a big doubt in every fan’s mind. Taking the character building of Hulk from The Incredible Hulk to the Smart Hulk in Avengers: Endgame and extending to She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Hulk is no longer the raging behemoth. Bruce Banner/Hulk is now smart enough to avoid unnecessary conflicts, and looking at the way he changed, the chances of still holding anger for an old enemy seem totally ridiculous.
And looking at the chances of making a solo Hulk flick, some think (even in our midst) that this might be the last we get to see Red Hulk. And we might see Skaar, Hulk’s gamma-powered son from his time on Sakaar, along with Bruce’s cousin Jen Walters/She-Hulk played by Tatiana Maslany in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
Red Hulk nearly Debuted in MCU Phase 3
Yeah, you read that right. As per our sources, there was a chance of getting the Red Hulk in MCU Phase 3’s Captain America: Civil War.
Red Hulk appeared as one of the big Marvel villains in 2012’s The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ second season, episode 9.
Red Hulk was there in the early drafts, but the Russo Brothers opted it out. They decided to keep Ross as the harbinger of the political conflict as Red Hulk’s origin will need a backstory and that would make the film quite large.
So, the chances of Red vs. Green are dim, but not equal to nil, and the chances of Red continuing in the MCU is something we gotta wait and see, coz there might be still-under-the-wraps appearances of Hulk and other Hulks, planned!
