The first set of R-rated superhero movies were the Blade movies.

Initially set for the release of 7th November 2025, Blade has been moved away as Disney got its plate full with 20th Century Studios’ Predator: Badlands.

In San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, the reboot of the iconic Wesley Snipes was announced with Mahershala Ali in the lead role. But then Covid-19 happened. However, production faced significant delays due to the global pandemic and strikes within the industry. 

Delivering the best Blade film is a priority for Marvel’s Kevin Feige, and hence MCU decided not to proceed unless they have a strong script. But in the middle of all these, Wesley Snipes took on a cameo as Blade in the recent Deadpool & Wolverine, which became the highest-grossing R-rated film ever grossing $1.3 billion.

Dan Trachtenberg and Elle Fanning are back for the next Predator, Predator: Badlands, after Predator: Prey. Disney missed out on revenue regarding Prey’s release on Hulu. During Covid the theaters were hit coz of lockdowns, and so the OTTs came to rise; but now the talk is to shift back to theaters. The original Predator, the 1987 summer release starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers grossed around $100 million worldwide. Currently, there are Predator (1987), Predator 2 (1990), Predators (2010), The Predator (2018), and Prey (2022) in the list along with Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007) with a total global box office of more than $750.6 million.

Blade (1998), Blade II (2002) and Blade: Trinity (2004), and together they earned around $418.1 million worldwide.

Now, apart from these, there is a rumor that there are three untitled Marvel films scheduled for release on February 18, 2028, May 5, 2028, and November 10, 2028.
