Born of Italian descent, Sara Pezzini is the wielder of Witchblade. She is a talented police detective with her above-average intellect and is very athletic. She has police training in hand-to-hand combat, weapons, and tactics.

It was during one operation that went awry, the Witchblade decided to bond with her to save her life. By bonding with her the Witchblade had many adventures and battles against Darkness and the forces of light. Her nosy partner, Patrick Gleason saves her life and they become more than just partners, and stands by her side when the event First Born starts happening paving the way for the biggest universe rebooting event in Top Cow Universe, Artifacts.

When she was pregnant with Hope, she passed the Witchblade to Danielle Baptiste, but reclaimed it in War of the Witchblades.

In Witchblade: Borne Again vol. 3, Sara tries giving up the Witchblade, but it returns until one fine day, it doesn’t, thus ending Sara’s line with the Witchblade.

Powers & Abilities:

Bonding with Witchblade has also granted her unique abilities like super strength.

She can heal herself.

She can create armor over her body.

The Witchblade allows her to shoot energy blasts.

It also allows her to extend razor-sharp tendrils and even makes her capable of winged flight.

It allows Sara to wear it as a bracelet without drawing attention.

Other than Witchblade-infused abilities, she is a very skilled hand-to-hand combatant, has good marksmanship, and is a great tactical analyst.

Trivia:

Danielle shares the Witchblade with her as she was on the verge of death. Possessing the evil half of the Witchblade, she nearly killed Danielle to take the remaining Witchblade from her.

She has teamed up with The Magdalena, Lara Croft, Tomoe, Darkchylde, and Vampirella on a few occasions. She has two crossovers with Wolverine, one is a CrossoverVerse tale while the other is more of a Marvel/Image crossover in which she meets Elektra and Silver Surfer too in the Devil’s Reign storyline.

She has teamed up with Darkness (Jackie Estacado) to fight Aliens and Predator in Overkill: Witchblade/Aliens/Darkness/Predator, and its sequel Witchblade/Aliens/Darkness/Predator: Mindhunter.

Sara reluctantly chooses to kill her daughter, Hope, realizing that she has to die for the sake of the world, as Jackie, Sara, and Hope appear to be the only survivors of the universe as it fades to nothing.

Bonus:

Witchblade and Darkness also have a crossover with the Hulk, Ghost Rider, and Dr. Strange before the First Born arc.

She plays a pivotal role in the Artifacts story arc.

There’s a CrossoverVerse arc, JLA/Witchblade in which Sara comes to Barbara for help regarding the Witchblade.

Outside Comics

Television

Sara played by Yancy Butler in the live-action TV adaptation of Witchblade.

In the Witchblade series (2001), Witchblade is used by Sara for both defense and offense. It can turn back time or slow time. The show also gives Sara the ability to see and talk with the ghost of Det. Danny Woo.

A second Witchblade series was announced in Jan 2017, but for some reason, it never saw light.

Film
