The first crossover to feature Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo crossing paths with the Avengers, X-Men, Spider-Man, and more

Now, a galaxy far, far away comes closer as Lucasfilm and Marvel have announced one of the most-awaited crossovers since Marvel Comics first published Star Wars Comics in 1977, and later in 2015.

Yeah, it’s happening at last. Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, the first-ever crossover between the Star Wars universe and the Marvel Comics universe, will be a five-issue limited series. Kevin Smith will write the series, with art by David Marquez.

This collision will be bringing Star Wars heroes and villains into the world of Marvel’s Earth-616, just in time for the 50th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope in 2027.

Kevin Smith recalled how he wished Spidey and Doctor Doom would cross over into the Star Wars cinematic saga. Kevin continued, “So, when the opportunity arose to actually tell that story, nobody had to Force my hand! I’m ecstatic to be writing Hope Assembles for the 50th anniversary of Star Wars! Many thanks to Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm for trusting me to fly the Falcon and the Quinjet!”

The series follows Marvel heroes witnessing the events of Star Wars unfolding on Earth and before their very eyes, after a spell shatters reality. As Doctor Doom allies himself with Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire, The Avengers, Spider-Man, and more will team up with heroes like Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca.

Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski said, “My time at Marvel has been filled with many ‘dream come true’ moments, but this Hope Assembles crossover is truly one of our proudest.” He continued, “It’s an idea we’ve wanted to explore since getting the Star Wars license back over a decade ago, but we knew we’d have to wait with the patience of a Jedi to make it happen.”

At last, as all the fans and well-wishers wanted, this 50th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope is indeed signing a new chapter of hope with Hope Assembles, by Kevin Smith and David Marquez.

Hope Assembles will mark a new chapter in the decades-long relationship between Marvel and Star Wars. Michael Siglain, Creative Director of Lucasfilm Publishing, reflects, “With Hope Assembles, Kevin Smith has written a true love letter to Star Wars, to Marvel, and to comics in general. And combined with David Marquez’s incredible art, we’ll see the heroes and villains of Star Wars team up and battle with the heroes and villains of Earth-616.”

Marvel and Star Wars histories have been intertwined for 50 years and continue to set standards for storytelling and cinematic scope across the media, and this collaboration is a perfect one.
