Synopsis:

A young man on Earth with a fabulous secret legacy as the prince of an alien planet must recover a magic sword. He must uncover the secret of the sword, and must ally with some incredible warriors to protect his kingdom from the clutches of an evil force, before it’s too late.

My Review:

What can I say, but the flick was okayish. Some of the comedy scenes were cringey, and the sexist jokes seemed a bit forced. And not much of He-Man-type fights as expected. Camila Mendes as Teela and Idris Elba as Man-at-Arms/Duncan were good. Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress looked cool, though her powers and knowledge weren’t revealed much. King Randor wasn’t that great; he seemed more tense than usual. And speaking about the rest of the main cast in the whole flick, Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man, Jared Leto as Skeletor, and Alison Brie as Evil Lyn, Jon Xue Zhang as Ram-Man, and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Malcolm/Fisto were good, but their scenes/dialogues weren’t that great, unfortunately. Even Teela had a silly joke in the end, it was a bit okayish, I guess, but even without that, it would’ve been better. Coz seeing Teela in her traditional gold and white outfit was something awesome, and Camila rocked in it as the perfect Teela we ever want in a live-action.

Camila and Morena shone with their acts. Idris’s Man-at-Arms/Duncan was good, and even Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena Glenn was good. Adam’s reunion with the sword seemed humorous but cringey in many places, but then it felt a bit off. Something about the Sword of Power too felt odd. Having Dolph Lundgren (Masters of the Universe, 1987) play a cameo was a great thing, a cool tribute which somehow reminded me of Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman, 1970s) appearing as Asteria in Wonder Woman 1984.

Beast Man’s texture and stuff felt cool, albeit he didn’t have much of a role, but the one he had in the start was superb. Trap Jaw was just okay. Moss Man, that wasn’t much, and Orko, they just gave him a brief appearance. And Adora’s cameo with her Sword of Protection seemed forced or added in the last minute.

The palace felt oddly close to the castle, and some scenes (like Skeletor and his army’s opening attack) sprang up all of a sudden without a proper transition. Despite that, it’s quite watchable; old fans may nitpick, but new viewers might enjoy it.
