With multiplicity of forms and diversity of voices, the anthology reshapes the landscape of Indian graphic narratives

July 2025 came and went, and at that time, out came the third volume of the Longform, an anthology of graphic narratives, from Vintage Books (Penguin Books India) with many wide-open doors for readers to think on. Argha Manna joined Pinaki De, and Debkumar Mitrathe in giving form to the anthology.

The anthology is a collection of 17 stories and 1 interview with Joe Sacco, the well-known cartoonist, War on Gaza.

Longform focuses between comics and picture story formats. Some are composed of minimalist drawings, while some have an overflow of text, if you can say so. It has different and appealing ways of text and images. Diversity and plurality are the main motto, while voices steer towards monologues. This book can be considered a free-flowing collection of experiments with the form of comics.  It focuses on the nostalgic flavor as well as the melancholies around us.

Finally, coming to the interview of Joe Sacco, the author of War on Gaza, is quite unique as it contrasts with the stories. Longform opens more opportunities for people to express the current situation in the world in a better form.

Longform is available in stores now.
