WEBTOON and Blumhouse open new doors for SIKC

WEBTOON brought BOOM! Studios’ acclaimed horror series Something Is Killing the Children to its vertical-scroll comics platform earlier this year, giving it a new digital home. Meanwhile, its screen adaptation moves forward with Blumhouse.

Yongsoo Kim, WEBTOON President, says, “WEBTOON connects fans around the world with some of the best storytelling in comics. BOOM!’s catalog has earned recognition from fans and industry professionals alike. We’re excited to bring modern classics and genre-defining series like Something Is Killing the Children to new audiences.”

BOOM! Studios President Jen Harned added, “BOOM! Studios is always looking for more ways to reach readers, and WEBTOON’s platform provides a great opportunity to experience our content.”

Created by James Tynion IV and artist Werther Dell’Edera, and first published by BOOM! Studios in 2019, Something Is Killing the Children follows monster hunter Erica Slaughter as she arrives in Archer’s Peak, a small town where children have vanished or been found dead. While adults cannot see the creatures responsible, Erica can—and she has come prepared to hunt them down.

Since its debut, the series has earned eleven major industry award nominations and won four Eisner Awards, two Ringo Awards, and the 2026 Dragon Award for Best Comic Book/Graphic Novel.

Earlier, Netflix could not settle on a version it wanted to make; it released its option after several years and two major creative-team changes (formerly with Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy and later with Dark creators Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese), it let the adaptation plans go, and that’s when Blumhouse acquired the rights after a bidding contest that reportedly included Netflix and Lionsgate, and had decided to develop a live-action film plus an adult animated series.

James Tynion IV will produce the live-action film and spearhead the adult animated series, with The Penguin director Craig Zobel confirmed to have signed on to direct the feature film during NYCC ’26. Jason Blum will produce for Blumhouse, while James and Stephen Christy will produce for BOOM! Studios/Penguin Random House, with Dell’Edera serving as a co-producer.
