Higher. Further. Forgotten.
Yeah, this time, it’s not just Higher, further, faster, but the new tagline taking the upcoming Captain Marvel: Dark Past into consideration, the tagline is Higher. Further. Forgotten.
As per the reports, Carol Danvers is returning to her original identity as Ms. Marvel, complete with the long-abandoned classic look.
Marvel originally was gonna bring back the real Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) during Secret Invasion, but that plan was scrapped, and instead Marvel Comics upgraded Carol to Captain Marvel in 2012 in order to sync with the MCU strategy, as Kamala Khan became the new Ms. Marvel.
Hmm…it looks like Marvel is taking a step back, after they couldn’t have her make a big impact as they’d calculated. Written by Paul Jenkins, Captain Marvel: Dark Past official synopsis reads:
As a cosmic-level being, Captain Marvel has saved universes, thwarted alien invasions, and even defeated a god or two. But when an attack on New York—bolstered by a mysterious group called DNVR—exposes a dark part of Carol’s family history, she’s forced to question everything she thought she knew about the Danvers name! Carol suspects that answers lie in an investigation she was forced to drop when she was a journalist, and as lost memories from her past as Ms. Marvel resurface, she’s faced with her toughest battle yet.
This five-issue limited series will explore a forgotten memory in Carol Danvers’ life when she was Ms Marvel.

Carol Danvers really rocked as Ms. Marvel and won fans with Warbird’s classic black costume with a massive lightning bolt insignia and a red sash around her waist. It was a very much appreciated Ms. Marvel look.
The message is clear: the past still matters, even if Marvel tried to move on.
Captain Marvel: Dark Past #1 releases on April 1st, 2026.
