Looks like the Girl of Steel can finally complete her original task when she left Krypton
With Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow arriving in theaters late this month, fans will be equally excited with this Elseworlds take on the character. Yeah, in comics, there have been multiple takes on various characters across the Elseworlds tags. Now, DC has released a fresh take on Supergirl with Supergirl: Survive.
Ethan S. Parker, Griffin Sheridan, and Rod Reis band together to create a twist on the last two Supers from Krypton. What if the Super cousins traveled together? An obvious possibility, but at the same time largely unexplored for no reason, regarding Kara Zor-El.
The issue has teenage Kara whispering a subtle yet powerful declaration to her baby cousin for the first time as she holds him close: “I will protect you with my life.”

We get to see Kara making plans as a normal teenage girl living a mundane life, and the normal behavior of the government’s uneasiness. Hidden within the main plot are many other reasons (Planetary collapse, militaristic dictatorship, political power struggles, and oppression). Many issues are addressed here for the planet’s doom.

Soon, we’ve both the cousins in a spaceship flying off the doomed planet. Kara Zor-El’s life on Krypton was rarely explored in any of the stories, and she came to cope with her current life and status. Even the rift between their parents is addressed briefly. This buildup shows us what Kara lost, which is something beyond comprehension.

The script by Ethan Parker and Griffin Sheridan subtly provides clear context for Krypton’s political turmoil, and then Rod Reis’ artwork elevates the story with an aesthetic feel that conveys its magical grandeur throughout.
Supergirl: Survive is one of the perfect introductions we wanted for the hero. Elseworlds is in one way not connected to the mainline, but it still is a canon, so, it’s an introduction which is also a re-introduction; anyway, this is a wonderful, mesmerizing, riveting intro that fans needed. The arc sure has the potential; now, hope it goes on with the same energy to end up in each one’s Pandora.
Supergirl: Survive #1 is now available at comic stores, and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow releases on 26th June.
