Maybe not the hero anyone deserves, but is surely the hero everyone needs

In the world of growing insecurities, when the police aren’t able to do their jobs properly, someone would rise to make the injustice pay, and someone did don a mask and came out to nab the motorcycle thieves.

Yup, a masked vigilante dubbed as the ‘Batman of Lagos de Moreno’ is going viral in Mexico, for tracking down motorcycle thieves at night.

The vigilante duct tapes the petty criminals to poles, writes ‘thief’ on their foreheads, and leaves recovered bikes nearby. As some locals are cheering him on, authorities are investigating & the legend is growing by the night.

Unlike the DC Comics vigilante from Gotham, this unknown Santiago Vargas/Bruce Wayne doesn’t seem be rich with surplus fortunes lying around for high-tech Bat-gadgets and Bat-gizmos, but it seems he surely knows his stuff, albeit it is basic.

The “Batman of Mexico” in the DC Universe is El Gaucho (Santiago Vargas) an Argentinan millionnaire playboy, a former agent of Spyral. He operated in Argentina and later expanded it to South America. In Batman Incorporated, he acts as the country-specific representative. Additionally, last year in September, DC’s Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires (Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios) features Aztec Batman operating in 16th-century Mexico.

Look on the bright side, Batman had money, but other than that, he too had basic gadgets compared to the ones he has now. 😉

It seems his modus operandi is to hunt down the thieves and secure them to public utility poles or lamp posts. He then brands them (writes) “RATA,” Spanish for rat/thief, across their foreheads and draws whiskers on their faces.

Some thieves even exhibit signs of getting roughed up.

At least five thieves have been found duct-taped to poles by this ‘Batman’ in the past 10 days

But as we can expect, the police are trying to subdue the good act by a stranger and are calling the criminals his victims.

The men were cut free from the posts and treated for their injuries. Police are treating the tied-up men as victims and are attempting to catch the vigilante, State Security Secretary Juan Pablo Hernández said.

These incidents have divided the public, as some are not supportive, while others aren’t.

A netizen commented, “Our silent guardian, our watchful protector, our dark knight.” Another said, “Mexico turned out to be the gothic city of the countries.”
