Mangaka Toyotarou just revealed the most in-depth look at Vegeta’s mother ever

Dragon Ball Super mangaka Toyotarou appeared with V-Jump editor Victory Uchida on a live stream on the Dragon Ball website to announce the results of Dragon Ball Super’s My Favorite Cover Poll. To commemorate the winner, Volume 19, the mangaka penned an alternate version of the cover art.

The original cover depicted Goku’s family as Goku walks on water with Chichi and Gohan beside him as he carries Goten on his shoulder, with the reflection showing Bardock, Gine, and Raditz, with Bardock carrying Goku in his Saiyan space pod.

However, in the new version, the alternate cover showed Vegeta’s family, with Vegeta walking on water with Bulma and Trunks beside him, while Bulla on his shoulder. And in the reflection of Vegeta’s family, we see Vegeta’s father, King Vegeta, his brother Tarble, and then obscured by King Vegeta’s cape, there is Vegeta’s mother!

Throughout the Dragon Ball franchise, Akira Toriyama had never even hinted at Vegeta’s mother.  This is the first time.

Her face is not shown properly, but small details are revealed. Her royalish wristbands, thin arms, and wavy black hair. On the website, Vegeta’s mother is simply mentioned as “the mysterious figure obscured by the King’s cape,” revealing how Vegeta’s mother is a non-presence in the series at large.

Along with this, the top ten fan picks were posted on Dragon Ball’s website. Volume 24’s art depicting five of the strongest Z Fighters came second.

Currently, no return date has been announced for the Dragon Ball Super manga or anime. But considering current things, everything seems to hint at a potential return of the manga soon, and Toyotarou has repeatedly confirmed he is working toward the series’ return. He also responded to a young fan’s desire to see the manga come back with a confident statement, “I got it.”

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is set for a Fall 2026 release, while Dragon Ball Super’s Galactic Patrol Arc is also confirmed to be in development.
