Some felt it was quite janky cosmically, to be frank!

Everyone loved Frank Miller’s Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, and its prequel and sequels were received fairly. Frank Miller’s Dark Knight had appeared here and there during some crisis or something, and it was all good, until now!

This March, Marvel and DC are bringing your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and the last son of Krypton together in Spider-Man/Superman#1. Marvel and DC didn’t just unveil one cover, but almost 19 variants too, featuring the works of renowned talents from the industry. Almost all the covers were ranged between good and best, and as aforementioned, not all were appreciated.

The variant cover by Frank Miller received more ire instead. His contributions and works like Sin City, 300, Robocop 2 and 3, Elektra, Dark Knight Returns, and others were awed with adulation, but this cover seemed more like stuffing the Dark Knight with Spider-Man and Superman.

One Batsy fan said, “No thanks. I get that he’s going for ‘his style’, but this looks so half-assed,” while another added on X, “If it wasn’t so distinctly Frank Miller, one would think it was a bad photoshop.” One comment appreciated Miller’s works in yesteryear, but not so much lately: “Miller cooked generational content that became core parts of Batman’s history, twice, then became the most annoying comic book artist and writer in history.”

The feedback just didn’t stop, they were harsh. Some found it okayish, as some found it of a likable sort. Reviews rained on X and other social media outlets.

One wondered, “Do you think he showed the draft with no Batman then, at the last minute, before submission, [Miller] added his little Batman so they had to include him?” while another user took a laugh and said, “As much as his art style has waned, I’d still buy this one. Spider-Man looking like, ‘WTF are you wearing?'”

But hopefully, one bad cover won’t affect the wait, and all are awaiting the next big crossover after Deadpool/Batman #1 from Marvel and Batman/Deadpool #1 from DC.

Spider-Man/Superman #1 will hit stores in April 2026.
