All set to return to the MCU as Wolverine for an Avengers crossover

The last time Hugh Jackman said he was retiring as Logan/Wolverine, he starred in Deadpool & Wolverine, alongside Ryan Reynolds, making it a huge success. Since then, speculation has been running about how long Hugh will play Logan/Wolverine.

It’s been more than 2 decades (25 years) since he first played the role in X-Men (2000), and even Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, jokes in Deadpool & Wolverine that he’d reprise his role “til he’s 90.”

As Avengers: Doomsday casting began, news arrived along with the possibility of many stars across Marvel flicks making their presence felt. But the excitement grew after Marvel confirmed multiple original X-Men stars appearing in the flick.

Hugh recently, when asked about his appearance in Avengers: Doomsday or its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, and his return to the MCU, The Prestige star said, “I’m never saying ‘never’ ever again.”

Real Steel star continued, “I did mean it until the day I changed my mind. I did mean it for quite a few years. I have done ten films now, so I think they have enough for an AI version of me!

Even with his vague reply and no confirmation, the possibility seems high. Although Hugh and Ryan’s characters are set in a different universe (Earth-10005), their future seems to be tied to the ongoing multiverse saga, with Doomsday and Secret Wars acting as the catalysts for their future to be in the main MCU (Earth-616). Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios President, has recently stated that: “The plans with Deadpool and Wolverine will always be the same: we’re always wondering where we can fit them in, and how fast.

Avengers: Doomsday is slated to release on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
