Only a very few people believed ‘A Minecraft Movie’ could be profitable!

The first trailer for A Minecraft Movie wasn’t well received, and fans of the video game were unhappy with the colorful visuals. Critics were also not that impressed, giving the movie mixed reviews.

However, those were of no matter, as it almost hit $1 bn at the box office.

Debuting on Max on June 20 and 22, the flick topped the chart as the No. 1 film in 28 countries, while on the second day, the numbers just doubled as it topped 47 countries.

The adventure movie grossed $946.8 million worldwide as per The Numbers raining a big success for Warner Bros. and Legendary.

Albeit the critics’ score wasn’t that great, the exciting response from moviegoers told a different story. On the Popcornmeter, A Minecraft Movie has an 85% popularity.

Based on the popular video game Minecraft, it follows four misfits who find themselves pulled into a mysterious world, Overworld. The new world thrives on imagination, absurd visuals, and is more like a cubic wonderland. Working alongside an expert crafter, Steve, they try to make a difference. Starring: Jason Momoa as Garrett “the Garbage Man” Garrison, Jack Black as Steve, Danielle Brooks as Dawn, Emma Myers as Natalie, and Sebastian Hansen as Henry.

Seeing that no one story drives the game, as the director Jared Hess explained, “We’re not the official story. We’re not canonizing anything. We’re just one of a zillion stories.”

Considering the success, Warner Bros. co-chairmen and CEOs Mike de Luka and Pam Abdy have confirmed their interest in a sequel, but no deals have been signed yet.
