Synopsis:
This book is loosely based on the 480 B.C. Battle of Thermopylae, where the King of Sparta led his army against the advancing Persians; the battle is said to have inspired all of Greece to band together against the Persians, and helped usher in the world’s first democracy. Let’s witness the earth-shaking assembling force of men massive enough to snuff out Greece, faced by 300 Spartans under the leadership of Leonidas.
AWEsomeness:
The art is great and syncs well with the story, and the beautiful coloring by Lee Varley exhilarates the reading and visual momentum of the book.

My Review:
I bought this book after a person (a visiting faculty, I guess) who worked for the movie 300 told my class (when I was doing VFX studies) about it being used as more of a storyboard. My interest in getting that book led me to a store where I started buying graphic novels for Pandora, frequently, for a while. Also, this is the first full-color project by Frank Miller for Dark Horse. I enjoyed the book incredibly. The way the story and art move forth hand-in-hand, one can feel the fierce Spartan war cry and the brave resistance of the mighty 300 Spartans. And as aforementioned, the 480 B.C. Battle of Thermopylae is recreated spectacularly with Lynn Varley’s colors exhilarating Frank Miller’s book’s momentum! And when in Vancouver, a professor backed it and told me to try the ‘Art of 300’, which I did, thankfully.
It’s a must-have book, and the movie ‘300’ is very much the same. After all, the movie is a wondrous work directed by Zack Snyder.
