Legendary Super Saiyans are unlike anything else, even the Saiyans have ever encountered!

Dragon Ball is most of the 80s and 90s kids’ best program ever. Countless iconic characters, the power surge war cries, and the Ka-me-ha-me-haaaaa shout are mind-blowing! It is nostalgic and gives goosebumps. From Goku to Broly, everyone has touched the hearts of millions of fans. But amidst all these, it’s the Saiyan power surge that’s everyone’s favorite and mind-blowing, and one of the most fascinating ones is the Legendary Super Saiyan, which is more than a title!

Dragon Ball Z had Goku turn Super Saiyan in the final battle with Frieza on Namek. But that was just the beginning. The Super Saiyan level was later attained by Trunks, Vegeta, Gohan, Goten, and so on. It was seen that the saiyans could become a Super Saiyan if they worked out a lot or had a power surge during a war. But that wasn’t the case. These ones were not the legendary ones.

Legendary Super Saiyan is More Than a Fancy Title

And then DBZ movie, Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan, who had the Super Saiyan transformation easier than the other saiyans. The Legendary Super Saiyan had a green tint to his hair, and even the aura was greener, deeper, and meaner than the others. The LSS’s physical appearance, too was massive with an increase in height and mass. The Legendary Super Saiyan became pupil-less, and a soulless warrior appeared before the foe. Faster, with high resistance to harm. LSS is something SS can’t handle!

Broly was a soulless machine of utter destruction! He was cloned and recreated, but still the same monster whose main enemy was Kakarot and everything living.

A Berserker Moment

Then came Dragon Ball Super. The Universe Survival Tournament happened. Enter Universe 6.

In this Universe, there appeared to be Saiyans, but they were not savages or destructive like in the Universe 7. Now, here, Super Saiyan was something not heard of. And in the Tournament of Power, Super Saiyan forms were been displayed now and then! But, turning Super Saiyan was something not so tough for the Saiyans of Universe 6, but when Kale transformed, thinking she lost Caulifla to Cabba, and at that time her look came as a callback to Broly in Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan in a berserker form.

Meanwhile, rumors were flying that Akira Toriyama, the creator Dragon Ball universe, was gonna reboot Broly, and so, most people guessed Kale to be that Broly.

But that doubt was cleared when, in 2018, the Dragon Ball Super movie: Broly was released. The DBZ Broly’s origin lacked depth, but he was still many’s favorite.

Now, let us see what stayed and what not:

  • Broly in DBZ, Kale, and Broly in DBS had less training, but were immensely powerful
  • DBS Broly and Kale were rivals with Goku and his friends at the start, but later they became friendly competitors or became allies, while the DBZ Broly was nothing less than a villain
  • DBZ Broly, Kale, and DBS Broly, all three loved a good rampage. Both the Brolys’ powers were restrained by a shock collar, while Kale’s power was controlled by her emotions, and Caulifla’s love and affection
  • DBZ Broly didn’t have any personality. He just went on a rampage, but the other two, DBS Broly and Kale, had feelings and interests beyond Goku and his friends
  • Now, Kale was lost and was later taken in by Caulifla. While the Brolys had a similar threat, King Vegeta. In DBZ, King Vegeta tries to kill baby Broly and leaves him for dead, and in DBS, baby Broly is exiled to a distant planet
  • Both the Brolys were victims of their father, Paragus, and listened to him. Albeit DBZ Broly takes his father out, DBS Broly cares for his father. Nothing is known about Kale’s parents
  • Kale didn’t have any scars (or at least any we know of), but both the Brolys had similar scars. DBZ Broly’s backstory of being angry at Kakarot didn’t make sense; DBS Broly’s backstory was far better. And Kale’s backstory is also fine, of being taken care, and mentored by her sister-like friend, Caulifla

Taking all these data into consideration, and with the canonization of DBS and DBS: Broly, DBZ: Broly has been considered a non-canon.
