Jim Carrey is open to returning and Cameron Diaz is if Jim’s on board

Recently, Cameron Diaz walked out of retirement after a long decade, beaming with hopes to continue working. In an interview, as a promotional pitch for her film ‘Back in Action’ with Jamie Foxx, Cameron spoke about the possibility of a sequel for the ’94 comedy ‘The Mask’ only if Jim Carrey returned as Stanley Ipkiss, “If Jim’s on board, I mean, I’ve been riding those coattails from day one.”

Jim Carrey in an interview with Comicbook.com in December revealed that he is open to play Stanley Ipkis/Mask if required for the movie’s sequel.

“Oh gosh, you know, it has to be the right idea,” Carrey confessed, “If somebody had the right idea, I guess… It’s not really about the money… But I never know. You can’t be definite about these things. I said I’d like to retire,…”

The 1994 comedy, The Mask, is about a bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss who comes into the possession of a mysterious chaotic mask which, when he wears, turns him into a maniac miscreant.  The film also stars Cameron Diaz as Tina Carlyle, a nightclub singer at Coco Bongo, and Peter Riegert as Lieutenant Mitch Kellaway, a slightly cynical police officer who goes after Stanley,  the Mask, and the antagonist Tyrell in the whole movie.

The movie had a sequel, The Son of Mask (2005), but it didn’t make like a predecessor, and both Stanley and Tina were not there in it, and the movie was an utter flop.

The Bruce Almighty actor recently reprised himself as Dr. Ivo Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and in it he also played Professor Gerald Robotnik (Ivo’s grandfather). It was released on Dec 20, 2024.

Cameron happily acknowledged the chemistry she shared with Jim Carrey in the movie as an outstanding one of hers.
