It’s gonna be a part of the first wave of projects in the DC Universe, “Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters”

HBO series Lanterns was reportedly gonna have Josh Brolin, Cable from Deadpool play Hal Jordan, or so it was thought.

But, Josh revealed that things didn’t work out, in a recent interview. He also said that Kyle Chandler is in talks to play the role.

In an interview, Josh said “You know what? Green Lantern didn’t work out, but that’s okay,” and is happy that Kyle Chandler, whom he considers a wonderful actor, bagged the role.

Watchmen’s Damon Lindelof and comic book writer Tom King are the heads behind DC’s HBO Series Lanterns. The eight-episode live-action series revolves around the new recruit, John Stewart, and the Lantern legend Hal Jordan, as they’re drawn to a dark Earth-based mystery when investigating a murder in the American heartland, in a True Detective syle. Chris Mundy will serve as the showrunner.

Earth-based lanterns are compelling characters in the DC comicverse, and of them, John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of the most powerful characters. And as per DC Studios co-chairmen and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, Lanterns is a foundational part of the unified DCU they’re launching next summer with Superman. Lanterns will be aired in Spring/Summer ’26.

Poorna Jagannathan too joins the list of casts for the series along with Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Kelly MacDonald as Hal’s love interest Sheriff Kerry, and Garret Dillahunt as modern cowboy William Macon, as Zoe, John’s love interest.
