Personalities of the Tailed Beasts

One of the main aspects of Naruto is the tailed beasts, also known as “Chakra Monsters”. To stop the resurrection of the humungous Ten-Tail, nine beasts were created. These 9 beasts are identified by the number of tails they possess. As per the legend, to stop the rampage of the Ten-Tail, the Sage split its chakras into nine-tailed beasts to prevent further destruction.

Each of the tailed beasts has their own unique abilities and personalities, albeit they all share the same core traits:

  1. Massive quantities of a powerful chakra
  2. Can easily transfer their chakra to one they choose to
  3. They can use the Tailed Beast Ball.

Let’s look at these titanic beasts’ personalities (Listed below in the order of the number of tails they possess)

  1. Shukaku: The One-Tailed Beast is often shown as a short-tempered being with childish behavior. Shukaku is given the demeanor of a drunkard. It is full of pride in its own abilities and looks forward to killing even during a full moon. Although regarded as the weakest of the Tailed Beasts, it utilizes any given opportunity to surpass its rival. It also holds a grudge towards Kurama and also hates humans for seeing it as a menacing monster. Shukaku protects and respects those who see it for what it is.

  1. Matatabi: The Two-Tailed Beast, Matabi, is considered to be respectful and polite to others compared to its siblings.

  1. Isobu: The Three-Tailed Beast is timid-natured compared to its size, look, and its siblings. It gets along in a very good manner, unlike other-tailed beasts.

  1. Son Gokū: A tailed beast filled to the brim with pride, just like the race of its namesake in Dragon Ball, the Saiyans. It also appears almost like the oozaru forms of the saiyans. It hates humans and believes that the apes have more intelligence than humans. It shows respect to those who respect the tailed beasts. The Four-Tailed Beast treats its siblings with respect.

  1. Kokuō: The Five-Tailed Beast appears to be of a quiet and reserved nature; a pacifistic being. It is very polite and is proud of itself being a tailed beast. But, hates being controlled and used as a puppet.

  1. Saiken: The Six-Tailed Beast appears like a giant slug. It appears to be kinder and not as self-serving or malicious as its siblings. It appears to be energetic and doesn’t consider killing for self-preservation.

  1. Chōmei: The Seven-Tailed Beast is a very happy-go-lucky imbued beast. It sees itself as lucky and uses the word ‘lucky’ in its conversation.

  1. Gyūki: This Eight-Tailed Beast is regarded as a tough and serious one in the group. It has a good analytical ability and is a kind-natured beast. Earlier, Gyūki was very wild and violent and hated humans for a while. In the past, Gyūki was infamous in Kumo for being wild and violent running a rampage now and then. It appears to be responsible.

  1. Kurama: The Nine-Tailed Beast is considered to be sharp and witty. It has great pride and considers itself to be the strongest in the group. Kurama is very supportive in nature, though by speech it appears harsh. Kurama has an intense dislike for humans. Kurama respects those who stand by their words. It has a comical trait and teases. It also has a mentoring nature and offers advice and calmly explains the situation as required.

  1. Ten-Tails: Ten-Tails is considered the source of all chakra and the progenitor of all tailed beasts and goes on a rampage to reclaim the chakras. It is a mindless monster that seeks destruction and has great destructive power. It can’t be sensed via usual means to detect negative emotions. It has no feelings or ideals of its own. It is sealed within the moon by the Sage of Six Paths and later used by Madara Uchiha and Kaguya Otsutsuki.
