Will a Kang ever return to the MCU!?

In December 2023, Jonathan was found guilty of two felonies of assault and harassment, resulting in Marvel dropping him from their projects.

After Jonathan Majors’ controversy(ies), MCU canned his character Kang to be replaced by Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor Von Doom and replaced Avengers: The Kang Dynasty with Avengers: Doomsday, by incorporating some major rewrites in the scripts. Most fans call this move a very silly one.

MCU is not new to recasts. The original Bruce Banner, played by Edward Norton, was replaced by Mark Ruffalo, James Rhodes, played by Terrence Howard replaced by Don Cheadle, and recently, after the death of William Hurt, Thaddeus Ross was played by Harrison Ford.  

So, the question is, why wasn’t a new cast decided by Disney/Marvel for Kang, instead of replacing the entire character? This has got the fans stumped.

Before debuting on the big screen in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Jonathan played Kang the Conqueror in Loki, the MCU television series.

On the Marvel Reddit page, a fan wrote, “I have no problem with Doom taking over as a villain, especially with the Fantastic Four joining the MCU, but it does kinda shock me they decided to completely switch villains instead of just having a different actor play Kang?”

While another person replied, “Probably just the stars aligning, as it were. Majors’ issues, Kang not being received very well so far, Marvel Studios cutting back on content / trying to take fewer risks, FF movie coming up, and big Doom event coming up in the comics. Plus, Doom played a bigger role in the Secret Wars comics than Kang. All those combined make it both convenient & probably safer to go with Doom. I hope they still bring Kang back at some point with a new actor; he’s an awesome villain, but right now I think they’re in a mindset of going for safer stuff.”

No idea when Kang will feature next, other than just wait and see with ears open, after all, as the Reddit user, @TheLazyHydra, said, Kang is an awesome villain, at least in the comics. In the movie, he could have made a better impact if his story was tweaked a tad to make it slightly more better.

So, for the time being, let’s wait and see when will we see Kang, now!
