More zombies to come!
K-dramas and J-dramas became popular among many, especially during the lockdown their popularity spiked. They have some really good shows that can keep you enticed. Some are dramas, sci-fi, horror, some good ol’ romance and comedy, and so on. One such K-drama that gained popularity is, All of Us Are Dead. Based on Joo-Dong-geun’s Naver webtoon of the same name, published between 2009-11. It premiered on Netflix on Jan 28, 2022.
Some rumors have been circulating for a while about its season 2, and now they are as true as they can get. Yeah, All of Us Are Dead’s second season is coming. The zombie survival is coming. With many zombie movies already out, it seemed cliché, but it has its vibe. Here the survivors are not some adults or some team of misfits, it’s mainly a group of students just like in the manga Highschool Of The Dead. It has a good exhibition of some good vibes and a mix of untamed emotions, one sees mostly in students or kids.
Waves of Possibilities
After the season 2 announcement on June 6, 2022, on Netflix’s X account there wasn’t much of any further news. But, as per Star News Korea report on May 23, 2024, season 2 was delayed for 2025 release to integrate some high-level production.

With many of the members being killed, a few survived. It will be cool to see all of the old faces. But the question remains, are the dead ones really dead? And this time there will be new zombie races to explore with us already given a taste of the virus evolution through Eun-ji, Nam-ra, and Gwi-nam. Now, there will be more exploration into the zombie matter.
Most of the details of season 2 are still under wraps. Director Lee has hinted at focussing on the shift towards the struggle for survival. Another thing we know is that the fallen city, Seoul, will be the main setting and more evolved and powerful zombies will enter. Filming is to start by the third or fourth quarter of 2024 and will be released by the second half of 2025.
The Netflix series constituted changes in the source material, yet it followed the webtoon closely, covering most of it. The bittersweet ending was fine if the series ended there. The series’ cliffhanger was Nam-ra going to join others such as her who still needs protection, while in the webtoon, Nam-ra is reunited with her friends, but the actual webtoon’s ending had a teasing ending with a dark turn showing an infected fish biting a Japanese fisherman revealing that this was soon gonna be a global issue.

Anyway, no sequel came out after that, and as aforementioned covering most of the source material, season 2 must be more of an original-original content. Now K-dramas go out exploring beyond the source material isn’t something new as there are a few like True Beauty and Sweet Home. It’s good if they can explore beyond, but they should try to adhere to a few main stuff or give a radical explanation for the changes incorporated.
Well, it seems Eun-ji, Gwi-nam, and Nam-ra were just a peek at the things to come. We’re already excited, and can’t wait for it.
Aren’t you excited like us?
