12 years ago, Frozen set a new trend for films like Brave, Moana, etc.
Disney, with its Princess tales, inspired kids. And 15 years ago, with Tangled, the studio welcomed 3D CG animated works with full swing, putting a lid on 2D animated releases. Most of them were on a young woman, her journey of self-discovery, true love, blah-blah-blah, until Frozen happened.

Yeah, there was true love, but that was a sisterly bond, not the usual princess-prince love story, something other than usual romance. Anna and Elsa had their stories forged, subverting the usual princess tropes. Frozen‘s Elsa was a game-changer in a way by modernizing the princesses’ stories.
Frozen‘s $1.2 billion worldwide box office numbers proved that it was a new dawn
Elsa showed the existence of a different version of ‘happily ever after.’ After Frozen, there came Brave, Moana, Raya and the Last Dragon, following in its footsteps to create a ‘happily ever after’ different from others. Frozen 2, Moana 2, and Wish explored the stories further, altering the damsel in distress label and giving the princess stories a new approach.
This reinvention of the princess stories is the new status quo for Disney, in a very successful Box Office way. This rewriting was widely accepted by many kids, and even their parents love it.
