After Barbie (2023), Mattel is aiming with Masters of the Universe

With Masters of the Universe set to hit theaters this year, Mattel released a new Masters of the Universe toyline at Nuremberg Toy Fair in Nuremberg, Germany, on January 26, 2026.

With this release, Mattel has planned to repeat the success it had in 2023 with Barbie, by launching a toy line of action figures for the upcoming live-action flick. Mattel is all set to revive its brand and has more than a dozen flicks in development.

After Barbie, grossing more than $1.4 billion worldwide and also winning an Academy Award, Masters of the Universe is Mattel’s second major theatrical.

With the release of the new movie’s first teaser trailer, the toy’s launch has piqued its interest and has since garnered more than 30 million YouTube views.

Mattel’s chief global brand officer, Robert Stanichi, said there was a lot of nostalgia for toy line after it first came out in the 1980s. At the Nuremberg International Toy Fair, he said, “So we’ve been waiting for the right moment to bring it back in a way that really delivers on the legacy”.

The credit for the relaunch can be given to Mattel entirely for finding the right team to make the movie, led by Oscar-nominated director Travis Knight, as told to Reuters.

He-Man, Skeletor, and Evil-Lyn action figures will be up for $25 and will roll out globally from April.

Masters of the Universe, the movie, starring Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man and Jared Leto as Skeletor, hits theatres on June 5, 2026.

The cast also includes Idris Elba, Alison Brie, Moena Baccarin, and Camila Mendes as Man-at-Arms, Evil-Lyn, Sorceress, and Teela, respectively.
