Minus makes a heck lot of difference!

Remember, Bardock: The Father of Goku, Toei’s Dragon Ball Z Special directed by Mitsuo Hashimoto. Well, that had some moments loved by many Dragon Ball fans worldwide. But, then came the manga, Dragon Ball Minus: The Departure of the Fated Child, retconning the story a bit and posing the question of whether Minus is canon or not!

Overview of Minus

Dragon Ball Minus: The Departure of the Fated Child is a 2014 special manga chapter that ties up to another plot of Akira Toriyama’s creation, Jaco the Galactic Patrolman. Minus pose as the prequel to the Dragon Ball, one thing that kickstarted the entire Dragon Ball Universe.

Fans all have noticed that this is in line with the Dragon Ball Super. Dragon Ball Minus follows the story of Bardock who is called back to Planet Vegeta along with all the saiyans dispatched to space in order to eradicate the entire race to stop the legend of Super Saiyan from becoming true.

And he does that!

The Minus-Martha Effect

The manga added some intriguing elements to the lore. And, these effects stayed very true to be taken up forth in the Dragon Ball Super: Broly, which itself is a reboot of the Dragon Ball Z movieβ€”Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan.

A Non-Canon Legend

But before this retcon came into action or was talked of, Bardock: The Father of Goku, in which Bardock’s demise by Frieza’s destructive ball, got a sequel, Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock. The impact of the destructive force creates a rift in time and space transporting Bardock into the past of his planet. And here he kickstarts the legend of the Super Saiyan. But there are holes still. Coz he was thrown into a distant past before the saiyans arrived on the planet, wasn’t he?

Anyway, no idea how adding that would affect the Dragon Ball lore, anyway, Dragon Ball Z TV special, Bardock: The Father of Goku is considered a non-canon, for now.

Affixing into the Lore

With Dragon Ball Super: Broly displaying Bardock and Gine’s joint effort to save Kakarot, backs the canonization of Minus into the Dragon Ball lore.

So, in this joy let’s shout at the top of our lungs, KAaa-Meee-Haaa-Meeee-HAAAA!
